Dr. Dick Manrique is Medical Director and Bariatric Surgeon of Lima Obesity Surgery Center, also is General Surgeon and Laparoscopist of San Borja Clinic Consulting Rooms Tower. He has worked as a surgeon for the Jose Casimiro Ulloa Emergency Hospital, Lima, Peru.
Dr. Dick
Manrique majored in General Surgery at the
Cayetano Heredia University in Peru, and has completed postgraduate
studies in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, Obesity Surgery,
Trauma and Emergency Surgery, Coloproctology Surgery and
Major Ambulatory Surgery, in Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Argentina,
Brazil and the United States. He has been trained in procedures
for Digestive Endoscopy and in Transabdominal (TAUS), Intraoperatory
(IOUS) and Laparoscopic Ultrasonography (LUS).
His surgery team is one of the pioneers
in Peru to have developed procedures –as part of their
routine– for Major Ambulatory
Surgery (no hospitalization required), which
includes procedures for cholecystectomy (bladder surgery),
surgery for gastroesophagic reflux, herniorraphy (hernia
surgery), gynecologic surgery, surgery for chronic abdominal
pain, surgery for hepatic cysts, diagnostic laparoscopy,
intragastric balloon implantation, and more. All of them
performed endoscopically or with scarcely invasive methods,
and ambulatory (no hospitalization required).
In 2001, Dr. Manrique launched an Ambulatory
Surgery Program for Emergencies in Peru that considers selected
cases of non-perforated acute appendicitis, cholecystitis
without biliary obstruction, etc. using ambulatory surgery.
He won the Contest of the III Peruvian
Congress of Endoscopic Surgery, organized in 2002 by the
Peruvian Endoscopic Surgery Society, with his paper, “Hand-Assisted
Laparoscopic Radical Nefrectomy” on patients with
renal adenocarcynoma in stages pT2-pT3.
In 2004, he was given recognition for all
the surgical activities developed as part of the Major Ambulatory
Surgery Program of the IPS Ambulatory Surgery Center of
Bogotá, Colombia.
In 2005, he was especially acknowledged
for his participation in the book, “Major Ambulatory
Surgery: Experiences for Latin America” written by
John Henry Moore MD, FACS, Bogotá, Colombia, for
the quality of his contribution as the author of several
chapters and in the organization process of the book itself.
In 2006, he was granted the Allergan® Certification in the Unites States, which accredits him
as a bariatric surgeon in the use of the LAP-BAND System
(Adjustable Gastric Band System) and the Allergan® Certification
in Santiago de Chile, in the use of the BioEnterics Intragastric
Balloon System (BIB Program). In addition to that, he obtained
the SILIMED Certification in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in the use
of this Adjustable Gastric Band.
In 2006, assisted to the VII Latin American Congress of
Endoscopy Surgery (ALACE) in Miami and participated in the
I Workshop of Bariatric Surgery in Cleveland Clinic of Weston,
Florida
In 2007, he became an active member of
the International Federation of Surgery of Obesity IFSO
in Cancun, Mexico, and tool part, as well, in the II Latin
American IFSO Congress on Surgery of Obesity that took place
in that city. In Sao Paulo, Brazil, he was trained at the
Bariatric Videosurgery Center of Albert Einstein Hospital,
and also attended the II International Workshop on Adjustable
Gastric Band.
In 2007, assisted to the First Annual International Consensus Summit for Sleeve Gastrectomy that took place in New York, United States.
In 2008, he assisted to the XIII World Congress of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO 2008) and participated in the Advanced Bariatric Surgery Course. Both took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In 2009, he participated in the Second Annual International Consensus Summit for Sleeve Gastrectomy as well as the VII International Meeting of International Club of Young Laparoscopic Surgeons which took place in Miami Beach, United States.
In 2010 he participated in the Masters of Minimally Invasive Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery that took place in Orlando, Florida. |
