Obesity is today the most frequent metabolic
disorder in developed countries and its prevalence has dramatically
doubled within the last decade. More than one third of the
world’s adult populations show some degree of overweight
or obesity. Obesity in children and adolescents is continually
increasing, too.
Obesity is easily detected by means of
the Body Mass Index (BMI). The BMI is a formula that relates
an individual’s weight and height and is useful for
classifying his or her nutritional status. |
